It is the thought that counts, right?

I have to talk about Conner for a minute. I feel like he gets left out more often than not when I blog. This kid is the best kid I could have asked for. He is the ultimate "eldest child". He watches out for his siblings without me even asking him. Especially the twins, he really loves to be with them. He gets straight A's, and his teacher ADORES him, she told me many times during parent teacher conferences. He is actually up for an academic award at school next week, he doesn't know that yet though. He is talented in many ways, and we just love our Conner.

Yesterday, he decided he needed to take his teacher a gift. She had been out of school for a funeral for 2 weeks, and was going to be back yesterday. He showed me a card he had made her, it was really cute. It went something like this: (On front) "I'm SORRY!" frownie face "So turn that frown upside down!" (Inside) A picture of his teacher in front of the class "I hope you feel welcome back at school. From your student Conner"

Then he asked me if I had a gift bag. I kept asking what he wanted to put in it but he kept skirting around the question so I gave him one and forgot about it. Then I had to run to the store for some bread, so I asked if he wanted to go and get her a treat. He picked out a small gerbera daisy plant and some Werther's candy. When we got back to the car I asked him where the gift bag was. He pulled it out, and in it was an old (albeit cute) stuffed animal, and some magnets. I questioned him and he said he thought she would like the magnets because she is a teacher, and the stuffed animal said "Love Bug" on it. Trying not to laugh, I tried to explain to him that we don't give away used gifts to people. So, I kept the used things and he gave her his card and other treats.

After I dropped them off, I pondered on the experience. What a sweet kid! He went out of his way to find something to help his teacher feel better. Not only that, but he spent his own money on the gifts he did give her. (He has a little job after school now, letting a neighbor's dog out while they are gone.) How did we get so lucky? It makes me feel so good to have kids that care so much for others.

Aw! I love that kid too! It makes me want to hug him. It was really fun to stay up and play games with him that night you guys were here. I can't beleive how fast he is growing. Are we old enough to have kids this age?!?! I'm not, so you certainly aren't, right?!?!

Will you tell Conner that I love him and I'm super proud of him?

It is easy to leave out the older kids who do so much. What a great little helper. Can't help but thank Heavenly Father for such a wonderful first born. I know I feel the same way about Abby.
