The toothfairy's premature visit

Alex tripped and fell onto the edge of an iron basket I have yesterday. He came to me screaming, and discovered a tooth shoved back into his mouth. It was amazingly still connected, so we made an emergency trip to the dentist where they pulled it the rest of the way out. This was after one of the guys gave me a 10 minute talk about how they will save 9 out of 10 traumatized baby teeth. Poor Alex was that one kid. He did very well in the chair, he tensed up a bit, and did cry but didn't struggle. I was so glad, because they were trying to force the happy gas on me and I just don't like to do it.

WARNING, VENT AHEAD: RE: Happy Gas. The extra cost is of course an issue, because the insurance won't pay for it. Hmmm, wonder why? They don't need it! It doesn't take pain away, it just makes them loopy. I REMEMBER getting happy gas, and I hated it. All of my other kids have had cavities, and some even have crowns and did just fine with the local stuff. Why do dentists these days think they need to drug the heck out of our kids to get them to cooperate? Anyway, after making me feel like a creepy, bad mother they finally numbed him up and pulled it. It took about 2 seconds, and cost me 100$. Lovely. At least it wasn't $150! (We have good dental insurance too, this was AFTER insurance). I won't go back to that ped dentist, they made me feel the same way when Bryce and Susanna were getting cavities filled. They lay there without making a peep and the dentist was shocked! Phooey on them.

Alex is doing fine today, he has a huge hole left from the missing tooth. He will look like a hillbilly for the next 5 or so years until the adult one comes in. Poor kid.

Oh my goodness! What a brave little guy! I doubt either of my boys would have sat still for that.

Didn't Conner have a similar experience with a prematurely missing tooth for a while? I thought it was cute!!! I'm glad to know about the happy gas. I'll keep that warning in mind!

Sorry about the drama at your house. I remember when Connor had a similar accident. My sisters daughter (2 yrs old) recently did the same thing)
