Happy harvest!

Last weekend, we were invited up to a place called Cedaredge (about an hour from here) for an "Apple Cider Party". A lady that Chris works with owns 32 acres of orchards and hosts it every year. It was great fun for the kids, they played all day long, and didn't want to leave! The boys sat on this tractor for most of the day, I think. We all helped make cider, with some pretty ingenious contraptions like a wood chipper, and garbage cans covered with cheese clothe with tubes and a hand pump to put it in the bottles. There was also free apples, all we could pick! We got about 8 boxes worth before we tired out and joined the party. The potluck was great, I didn't have to fix dinner. All in all, it was a great fall activity and I can't wait to go next year! I have had several canning days this week and made a ton of apple pie filling, apple sauce and just plain apples. I plan to make some apple butter as well. YUM.
